Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, has officially clarified that the aircraft involved in a fatal crash at Tema Community 1 on Monday afternoon is not part of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) fleet.
The incident, which involved a privately owned microlight aircraft, drew immediate public attention and sparked early speculation regarding military involvement due to the nature of the flight.
In a swift response to the tragedy on Facebook, the Deputy Minister issued a statement to set the record right and prevent misinformation.
“It has come to my attention that a Microlight aircraft has crashed at Tema Community 1,” Genfi stated. “I wish to state that the aircraft does not belong to the Ghana Armed Forces.”
While the Deputy Minister’s statement focused on the identity of the aircraft, he also acknowledged the tragic nature of the event. While official casualty figures are still being processed by emergency responders on the scene, the Minister offered condolences to those impacted by the crash.
“We pray for the souls of the departed and extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” he added.
Security agencies and aviation experts are expected to take over the site to determine the flight’s origin and the technical cause of the failure. The clarification from the Ministry of Defence effectively shifts the investigation toward the civil aviation sector and private flight regulations.
