President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu as Ghana’s High Commissioner-designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, according to an official notice by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The appointment, announced on 1 March 2026, forms part of the government’s latest round of diplomatic postings aimed at strengthening Ghana’s bilateral relations within West Africa and across the continent.
A statement shared by the ministry named Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu as the incoming envoy to Abuja, where he will represent Ghana’s political, economic and trade interests and deepen cooperation between the two countries.
Reacting to the news, Foreign Affairs Minister and North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa congratulated the appointee, describing the selection as well-deserved.
“Congratulations, Baba Sadiq on your well-deserved appointment by President Mahama as High Commissioner designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I have no doubt you will hold aloft Ghana’s flag and make the youth of our continent proud,” Ablakwa wrote in a social media post.
Nigeria remains one of Ghana’s most strategic diplomatic and economic partners, serving as a key trading hub within ECOWAS and hosting a large Ghanaian community. The High Commission in Abuja plays a central role in consular services, trade facilitation and regional security cooperation.
Baba Sadiq is expected to assume office following the completion of diplomatic formalities.
