The long-delayed Krofrom Market redevelopment has received a 100 million cedi funding boost as authorities push to restart and complete the project under the government’s 24-Hour Economy programme.
Metropolitan Chief Executive Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi said in a sessional address to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly on Monday (25 May) that the funds had been secured from the Social Investment Fund under the Ministry of Finance to support ongoing works.
He said the total estimated cost to complete the market now stands at 179 million cedis, based on consultant assessments, with the new financing expected to cover a significant portion of remaining construction.
“The completion of the Krofrom Market remains at the core of my administration’s development agenda,” Boadi said adding that “this intervention underscores the unwavering commitment of H.E. the President, John Dramani Mahama, and H.R.M. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to the realisation of this project.”
The project, being executed by Attachy Constructions Ltd, is intended to replace the long-abandoned market structure and provide modern trading facilities for thousands of traders in Kumasi.

According to the Mayor, a seven-member committee has also been established to oversee space allocation and operational planning ahead of the market’s completion.
However, traders have continued to express frustration over the slow pace of work at the site, despite assurances that construction has resumed.
A recent visit to the project area showed a fenced site with security presence, parked construction equipment and workers occasionally seen on-site, but no sustained active construction activity.
Some traders told local media they remain skeptical about timelines, citing years of delays and repeated unfulfilled promises.
The Krofrom Market project is part of the government’s broader urban market redevelopment drive aimed at improving trading conditions, boosting local commerce and supporting economic activity under the 24-Hour Economy policy promoted by President John Dramani Mahama.
