Akbar Yussif Khomeini says Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has identified and proposed a solution to what he describes as the long-standing disconnect between political parties and governments in Ghana.
According to the deputy spokesperson of the Bawumia campaign, the presidential candidate has promised that an NPP government under his leadership would ensure structured representation of party members within government.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (20 January), Khomeini explained that under Ghana’s executive system, the president has the authority to make over 6,000 public appointments.
Bawumia, he said, intends to allocate 10 appointments to each of the 276 constituencies, allowing party members who contributed to the NPP’s electoral victory to be nominated for public service roles, subject to constitutional qualification requirements.
“The party begets the government, but once government is formed, there is often a disconnect that eventually leads to defeat. Both the NPP and NDC have suffered from this since 1992,” he said.
Khomeini said the proposal has generated excitement among party delegates, as it introduces a clear reward system while maintaining governance standards.
He added that beyond party matters, Bawumia has also presented a broader national vision centred on economic transformation, private sector–led development and institutional reforms.
The campaign spokesperson described Bawumia as “arguably the most impactful vice president in Ghana’s history,” citing initiatives such as digitisation of public services, the domestic gold purchase programme and the gold-backed currency policy.
“These ideas have contributed to currency stability and economic recovery, and given the opportunity to serve as president, he believes he can do even more,” he said.
