Hundreds of vulnerable Muslim families in the Northern Region have benefited from a donation of cows in this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
The support was provided by Africa Relief and Community Development Ghana in collaboration with Islamic Relief USA to enable needy families to participate in the annual Islamic festival.
The beneficiaries, made up of women, children, the aged, and other less privileged persons, gathered at Duliizugu in the Kumbungu District to receive their share of the meat for the celebration.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar where Muslims slaughter animals and share the meat with relatives, neighbors, and the poor.
However, due to economic hardship, many families in rural communities are unable to afford animals for the festival.
The donation therefore brought relief and excitement to many residents who expressed gratitude to the organisations for remembering them during the festive season.
Speaking to the media during the distribution exercise, the Programs Manager for Africa Relief and Community Development Ghana, Yussif Ceaser Nuhu, explained that the initiative forms part of their yearly humanitarian support to vulnerable Muslim communities.
According to him, the organizations are committed to promoting unity, compassion, and support for the less privileged during Eid celebrations. He added that the gesture was also aimed at strengthening community ties and ensuring that no family is left out of the celebration because of poverty.
The Assemblyman for the Gupanarigu Electoral Area, Baba Iddrisu Niendoo, commended the donors for the timely intervention and their continuous support to vulnerable people in the area.
He noted that the donation would help reduce the burden on struggling families and allow them to celebrate Eid with joy and dignity. He further appealed to other philanthropic organisations and individuals to emulate the gesture by extending support to deprived communities across the Northern Region.
