The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed its United States branch to suspend all election-related activities pending a constitutional and legal review of its internal electoral rules, according to an official communication from the party’s national secretariat.
In a letter dated 31 May and signed by the General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, the NPP said the decision followed a memorandum from the NPP-USA branch dated 28 May in which the branch reportedly challenged aspects of the party’s approved guidelines for external branch elections.
The party said the matter had been referred to its Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee for review and advice, in line with internal constitutional provisions governing party elections.
“You are hereby informed that the matter has been referred to the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee… for a review, consideration, and advice,” the letter stated.
It added that the national leadership would communicate the committee’s findings and directives in due course.
Pending that process, the party instructed the USA branch to suspend all election-related activities “until further notice.”
