“We don’t go public on a judge, this is not what we expect”: Saviour Kudze warns against undermining judiciary

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has condemned public criticism of a judge by a senior opposition lawmaker, warning that such attacks risk undermining judicial independence.

Saviour Kudze, the association’s public relations officer, said lawyers dissatisfied with court rulings should use established legal channels rather than resort to public commentary.

“If you disagree with a judge’s decision, you don’t go public on the judge. There’s an appellate system,” he said on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (19 May).

Kudze described the remarks by the lawmaker — who questioned the competence of a judge — as inappropriate and contrary to professional ethics.

“As a senior lawyer and public figure, a lot is expected. This is not what we should be seeing,” he added.

He said the GBA remains politically neutral and urged Ghanaians to maintain confidence in the judiciary, describing it as “the last line of defence.”

Kudze acknowledged growing public tensions but warned that sustained attacks on judges could erode trust in the legal system.

“Allow the processes to work. If one court decision goes against you, there are higher courts to seek redress,” he said.
