Ellen Ama Daaku, a communications team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticised Minister of Communication Samuel Nartey George for his stance on the country’s SIM card registration exercise.
Speaking on The Forum on Asaase Radio on Saturday (21 March), Daaku questioned why George, who previously opposed registration citing alleged misconduct by former officials, is now urging citizens to register without providing an apology or explanation for his earlier position.
Daaku added that George now claims moral authority to direct citizens, but she sees this as inconsistent with his past objections.
“Sam George vehemently opposed this at the time, and his reason didn’t make sense. His argument was that the minister at the time was stealing money from Ghanaians and that they shouldn’t go and register,” she explained.
“I can only conclude that just what Sam George was saying about Ursula Owusu, he too wants to steal. Sam George wants to make money illegally from this process. Otherwise explain to me why he wants to put consumers and Ghanaians through this process again…he hasn’t given us any tangible reasons,” she said.
She emphasised that the priority should be protecting the public and ensuring the SIM registration is completed effectively, rather than revisiting past controversies.
