Police foil robbery attempt on Antoakrom–Manso Nkwanta stretch, recover firearms and vehicle

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has successfully thwarted a planned robbery operation along the Antoakrom–Manso Nkwanta stretch, recovering firearms and a vehicle in the process.

According to the Ghana Police Service, intelligence indicated that a gang of armed robbers had gathered in a bush along the route on 31st December 2025, intending to attack commuters. Acting on this information, a police team swiftly moved to the location. Upon encountering the suspects, the robbers opened fire and attempted to flee, prompting a police response.

Two of the suspects, identified as Usmaro Mohammed and Yaw Frimpong, also known as Nana Yaw, sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter and were pronounced dead on arrival at the Bekwai Municipal Hospital. Two other suspects managed to escape into the bush.

A search of the scene led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, a pump-action gun loaded with four BB cartridges, four spent cartridges, and a black bag containing 16 live cartridges. Police also impounded a Toyota VOXY vehicle believed to have been used by the gang in their operations.

Investigations indicate that the suspects were involved in several robberies in Manso and Obuasi, including the Mpohor gold robbery, the Nyinahini highway robbery, and a cocoa shed robbery at Sefwi. Authorities say the suspects had accomplices in Mankranso, Tamale, and Brekum, who remain at large.

The police command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and determine the ownership of the recovered vehicle.
