WhatsApp may soon let android users schedule messages

Messaging platform tests built-in scheduled message feature in beta, bringing long-requested convenience to users

WhatsApp appears to be testing a scheduled messaging feature for its Android app — allowing users to compose messages and set a future delivery time instead of sending them immediately. The capability was spotted in the latest beta builds and could roll out broadly in future updates, giving users greater flexibility for birthdays, reminders, and time-sensitive communication.

What’s Changing?

Traditionally, WhatsApp has focused on real-time messaging, but users have increasingly demanded more asynchronous tools — especially scheduling messages in advance. The new feature found in Android beta versions allows users to choose a specific date and time for a message to be sent, similar to options available in competitors like Telegram, iMessage, and Google Messages.

The scheduling feature was discovered in beta builds under menus like Group Info or chat options, where users may soon be able to view, edit, and manage all their scheduled messages before they go out. This suggests WhatsApp is preparing a polished UI for broader use once the feature is stable.

Why This Matters

If widely released, built-in message scheduling could change how people use WhatsApp:

  • Personal reminders and celebrations: Send birthday wishes or event notices exactly on time without manual effort.
  • Professional communication: Businesses and organizations could plan outreach messages outside normal hours or across time zones.
  • Improved planning: Users won’t have to rely on third-party tools or device-level automation to set up future messaging.

Currently, some third-party solutions — like automation apps and schedulers — already allow WhatsApp message scheduling on Android, but they often require additional setup, workarounds, or device permissions. A native feature would simplify the process and make it accessible to all users without extra tools.

When Could It Arrive?

The scheduling tool is still under development and not available in stable releases yet. WhatsApp typically tests new features with select beta testers before rolling them out gradually to the general public, so a wider launch could happen in the coming months.

As messaging apps evolve, features like scheduled messages — already offered by rivals — help WhatsApp stay competitive and meet user expectations for flexibility and convenience.
