Black Queens press on with Pink Ladies Cup campaign amid Middle East tensions

Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Ghana women’s national football team, will continue competing in the Pink Ladies Cup in the United Arab Emirates despite regional tensions that briefly disrupted their training schedule.

The development follows rising instability in parts of the Middle East, which initially restricted the team’s access to their training pitch.

The team’s Media Officer, Matilda Dimedo, confirmed that the squad remains in close contact with tournament organisers and Ghana’s Consulate in the UAE.

Officials from Ghana’s diplomatic mission paid a visit to the team on Tuesday morning to reassure players and technical staff of government support and their safety while in the country.

Although security concerns temporarily halted outdoor sessions, the team maintained its preparation through indoor gym work to preserve match fitness.

Dimedo indicated that the Queens are hopeful of resuming full training on the pitch later on Monday as they prepare for their next fixture against Russia scheduled for Tuesday, subject to stable conditions.

She stated that tensions have eased significantly compared to the previous day when smoke was visible across the skyline. According to her, daily life has largely returned to normal, helping to calm nerves within the Ghanaian camp.

The team’s exit plan, however, depends on developments in regional airspace. If restrictions are lifted before their final match against Tanzania, the delegation may depart earlier than planned. Otherwise, they will complete the tournament and await clearance to travel.

The Black Queens began their campaign strongly with a commanding 4–0 victory over Hong Kong on Saturday. The Pink Ladies Cup forms part of their build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
