The fourth edition of the African Prosperity Dialogues (APD) will kick off tomorrow with a deliberate focus on empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), women, and youth across Africa, according to Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, Chairman of the Africa Prosperity Network.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (3 February), Otchere-Darko emphasised that 90% of Africa’s economic activity is driven by SMEs, which also account for about 80% of employment on the continent.
Women, he said, lead trade within the informal sector and operate nearly 30% of registered companies, making their empowerment critical for Africa’s economic integration.
“This year, our theme is ‘Empower SMEs, Women, and Youth in Africa’s Single Market: Innovate, Collaborate, Trade,’” he stated.
“We want African women and youth to understand that this economic integration agenda is about them, their careers, and their future.”
The APD 2026 will feature workshops on SME financing, youth dialogues, women’s entrepreneurship sessions, and cross-border business scaling, involving banks, NGOs, and industry leaders from across the continent.
