The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven suspects in connection with a highway robbery last year along the Tamale–Buipe highway, in which a member of the Council of State was among the victims.
The suspects—Rashida Yussif, Aaron Abaana, Wilson Abasong, Muntaru Iddrisu, Aminu Zibrilla, Innusa Sumaila, and Haruna Safianu—were apprehended on 11 January 2026.
Speaking at a media briefing at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, 29 January, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
“On 21st July 2025, the victim was travelling along the Tamale–Buipe highway when he was attacked by six armed men who robbed him of personal belongings, including mobile phones, cash, wristwatches, reading glasses, laptops, and other items,” COP Donkor said.
In a separate intelligence-led operation, the police also arrested five suspects linked to another robbery at Nkasei in the Ahafo Region on 16 January 2026. The suspects—Muta Kofi, Mahamadu Sajoe alias Salifu, Shaibu Issah, Abdul Suleman, and Bukari Sule alias Taylor—were implicated in an attack on 2nd December 2025, where armed accomplices blocked the Goaso–Tepa road to rob travelers.
COP Donkor urged members of the public to remain vigilant, prioritise their personal safety, and avoid sharing sensitive information with strangers. She emphasised that the police are continuing efforts to clamp down on criminal activities across the country.
