Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu visits mother of late Defence Minister in Eastern Region

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu paid a condolence visit on Thursday, 29 January, to the mother of the late Defence Minister, Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, in the Eastern Region.

The visit comes several months after Omane Boamah’s death in a military helicopter crash.

Minister Iddrisu, who is on an official tour of the region, met the bereaved mother to offer support and extend his heartfelt condolences. During the visit, he comforted her, embracing her and assuring her of divine strength. “God will see you through; God will give you the strength,” he said.

Visibly moved, the mother expressed her gratitude to those who had stood by her since the loss of her son. “I thank you all for your support,” she said, reflecting the collective sympathy extended to the family.

Edward Kofi Omane Boamah served as Ghana’s Minister for Defence before his untimely death on 6 August 2025. He was among eight people who died when a Ghana Armed Forces Z‑9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. The helicopter was en route from Accra to Obuasi for an anti-illegal mining engagement.

The crash also claimed the lives of Minister of Environment, Science and Technology Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed Limuna; NDC Vice-Chair Samuel Sarpong; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Minister Iddrisu’s visit underscores ongoing support and solidarity for families affected by national tragedies, even months after the events.
