A student, Regan Kwesi Egbe Addo, also known as Morgan Addo, has appeared before the Dansoman Circuit Court on charges of stealing a total of GHC24,849 from two bank customers using ATM cards.
Addo faces two separate counts of theft, to which he has pleaded not guilty. In the first case, prosecutors allege that on 17 September 2025, he posed as a staff member of GCB Bank at the Ministries ATM in Accra.
He reportedly convinced a customer to accompany him to the Société Générale Ghana Bank Premier Towers branch, where he allegedly stood behind the customer as they entered their personal identification number (PIN).
Addo is accused of claiming to clean the ATM card chip and swapping the card, then withdrawing GHC14,949 from various locations in Accra, including Kempinski Hotel and Airport City Shell Fuel Station.
In the second case, Addo is alleged to have used a similar method on December 23, 2025, to withdraw GHC9,900 from another GCB Bank customer, who is also a staff member of the Ministry of Fisheries.
Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, leading the prosecution, said police used closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from GCB Bank to track Addo’s movements and connect him to the incidents.
He was previously listed on a police wanted register for ATM card thefts within the Accra Central Division.
The court granted Addo bail and directed him to return for a case management conference on 11 March 2026.
The prosecution was also ordered to file witness statements and disclosures ahead of the next hearing.
Authorities have urged bank customers to exercise caution and report suspicious activity immediately to prevent such fraudulent incidents.
