The Eastern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has publicly backed former Food and Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong to lead the party into the 2028 general election, citing his financial support and organisational role during the 2024 polls.
Jeff Konadu Addo has urged party delegates to vote for Acheampong in the party’s upcoming presidential primaries, arguing that his resources and election strategy helped secure the party’s performance in the region.
Speaking to delegates from the Krobo areas of Lower Manya, Yilo Krobo, Upper Manya and Asuogyaman at Odumase Krobo, Konadu Addo said Acheampong financed campaign activities across the Eastern Region in 2024, supporting parliamentary candidates as well as regional and constituency executives.
He said the region remained financially stable during the campaign period at a time when other parts of the country faced funding challenges.
“As other regions were falling financially, the Eastern Region remained strong due to the financial investment he supported us with,” Konadu Addo said.
“I urge everyone not to be afraid when anyone threatens you. Let everyone go with a good heart and vote for Dr Bryan Acheampong.”
Acheampong, a lawmaker and former minister, is among several figures positioning themselves for the NPP’s leadership race as the party seeks to regroup following the 2024 general elections and prepare for a return to power in 2028.
The NPP has set 31 January for the presidential primaries, but endorsements from influential regional executives are expected to play a key role in shaping delegate support ahead of the contest.
