A former head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has filed a defamation lawsuit against a national security operative, several media outlets and editors over publications she says falsely accused her of land-grabbing.
Faustina Agyeiwaa Kodua Andoh-Kwofie, a Commissioner of Police, is seeking damages and retractions over a story she says portrayed her as having abused her position to acquire disputed land.
The suit names Charles Amegadzie as the first defendant, alongside media-related defendants including NewsGhana.com.gh, Supreme Newspaper, Cloudview Technology Limited and Opera Norway AS, as well as individuals identified as editors.
According to court filings, Andoh-Kwofie argues that the publication suggested she used her office within the police service to engage in unlawful land acquisition, an allegation she describes as “completely false.”
She is asking the High Court to declare the publication defamatory, order its removal, and compel the defendants to issue a full retraction and unreserved apology.
The former CID director is also seeking 10 million cedis in general damages, in addition to aggravated and exemplary damages, citing what she describes as a “reckless and malicious” publication.
She further wants the court to impose a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from making or repeating similar allegations.
Andoh-Kwofie said the land at the centre of the dispute is already before a court of competent jurisdiction and argued that the reports unfairly framed her as a corrupt official who abused her authority.
