Sakogu residents commend government for planned 24-hour economy market

Chiefs and people of Sakogu in the East Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region have commended the Government of Ghana, under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for the planned construction of a 24-hour economy market in the community.

Residents held a press conference in the community on Saturday ( 11 April 2026) to express heartfelt gratitude to the government for the proposed market.

A sod-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday (1 April 2026) to kick-start construction of the project, which is expected to be completed in 30 months.

While applauding the government for the initiative, residents urged the administration to expedite the work to prevent the project from stalling.

They said completion of the 24-hour economy market will boost economic activity and create employment opportunities for youth and women.

Chief Akara Wanimpa Mohammed, who read the press statement, said, “We say we are very much grateful for the government of Ghana for bringing this 24-hour economy market for Sakogu. We would have said that you have delayed too much but thank God you are coming because since 1992, as I said already this area we have had a consistency and the consistency is divided into zones and this Sakogu zone have never turned their back towards ndc.”

“The Sakogu market has no government structure apart from the butcher shop, which was constructed by Nkrumah,” he added.

The chiefs and people of Sakogu also raised concerns about the deplorable state of the Nalerigu–Sakogu–Bunkpurugu road, appealing to the government to prioritise its rehabilitation.

“While we welcome and receive the market with two hands, we also encourage and plead that the government should do the road for us so that farmers produce does not perish on our farms or on the roadside without getting to the market,” he appealed.

Chief Akara Wanimpa Mohammed cautioned that community members will register their displeasure with the government by voting against the NDC if it fails to complete the project before the 2028 elections.

“Should in case it is not able to finish, we will not be happy. We will register our displeasure to the government, and we will pray for him whatever is making the government not complete it so that it will complete it for us. But if the government does not complete it for us, we will also show him our thumbs.”
