The Berekum Traditional Area has ushered in a new era of leadership with the enstoolment of Odeefuor Diabour Asante II as Paramount Chief of the Berekum Traditional Council, in a ceremony steeped in rich cultural symbolism and ancestral reverence.
The 63-year-old royal, known in private life as Kofi Asante Kyere, formally ascended the revered Amankona Diawuo Stool after swearing the oath of allegiance before the Traditional Council and the people of Berekum.
Clad in resplendent traditional regalia and guided by time-honoured customs, the new Berekumhene pledged to serve with integrity and uphold the sacred responsibilities and authority vested in the stool.
In a solemn yet vibrant ceremony that drew chiefs, elders, and citizens from across the traditional area, a delegation from the Manhyia Palace, led by Okyeame Bonsu, delivered a message of counsel to the new chief. He urged Odeefuor Diabour Asante II to allow humanity, the legacy of his forebears, and the enduring customs of the land to guide his reign.
The Berekum Traditional Council also charged the new Paramount Chief to champion unity among Nananom and the wider community, stressing the need for collective leadership to drive sustainable development in the area.
In his acceptance address, Odeefuor Diabour Asante II reaffirmed his commitment to fostering cohesion and progress.
“I am fully committed to uniting Nananom and the people of Berekum to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development,” he declared.
Following the swearing-in, the newly installed chief was lifted shoulder-high and paraded before an enthusiastic crowd, symbolising his formal introduction and acceptance by the people in accordance with custom.
Odeefuor Diabour Asante II succeeds the late Daasebre Dr. Amankona Diawuo, who passed away in 2023, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and service.
Born on August 28, 1962, in Berekum, the new Paramount Chief is a member of the Berekum Royal Family. He began his early education at Berekum Presbyterian School and later attended Dormaa Secondary School, where he completed both his Ordinary and Advanced Level education between 1976 and 1983.
In 1984, he relocated to Germany, where he built a distinguished career spanning more than three decades. During this period, he furthered his education in London, earning a Certificate in Business Administration from the Association of Business Executives.
His professional journey includes roles with internationally recognised organisations such as Beiersdorf, Schnellecke Logistics, Advance Automotive, and Rewe Markt, reflecting a wealth of global experience he now brings to traditional leadership.
Married with two children, Odeefuor Diabour Asante II assumes the stool at a time of heightened expectations, with many looking to his blend of international exposure and deep cultural roots to strengthen unity and accelerate development in Berekum.
His enstoolment marks not only a continuation of tradition but also the beginning of a renewed vision for the future of the Berekum Traditional Area.
