An operations officer recently deployed to West Mamprusi Municipality by the Inspector General of Police was allegedly caught with the wife of a local chief in Walewale on Friday night, 29 May 2026.
According to a friend of the chief, neighbours alerted him after noticing someone enter the chief’s house and remain in the woman’s room from 8PM to 12AM.
The woman has one child with the chief, who holds the title Gumdaana and is a son of the Wun-Naaba. The chief resides in a separate house. Sources say the officer entered the wife’s room and allegedly had an affair with her.
Angry residents apprehended the officer and handed him over to police at the Walewale charge office for interrogation, after irate youth attempted to lynch him.
The Paramount Chief of Wungu Traditional Area, Naa Salma Mahamudu Issahaku, later summoned the West Mamprusi Municipal Police Commander, ASP Seth Agyekum, to his palace. The chief and elders directed the commander, who represented the officer, to provide a cow, a ram, a red cock, a white cock, and GHC5,000 as traditional settlement.
The commander pleaded for a reduction, but the chief and elders said they had been lenient because they sought peace, not destruction. He thanked them and said he would relay the demand to the regional commander.
He also praised Alhaji Ibrahim, a friend of the chief, for stopping residents from lynching the officer.
The chief and elders said they expect the items to appease the gods within a week.
The municipal police commander was accompanied by some officers and the West Mamprusi Municipal BNI boss when he visited the chief’s palace in Wungu.
