Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has been voted the English Premier League (EPL) Player of the Week for Matchday 26 following a stellar display for Manchester City in their 3-0 victory over Fulham F.C. at the Etihad Stadium.
The 26-year-old forward, who joined City in January from the Championship, opened the scoring after capitalising on a defensive lapse and later set up Nico O’Reilly for the second goal. Erling Haaland completed the emphatic win, but it was Semenyo’s vision, movement, and composure that earned him the Man of the Match nod.
Semenyo’s rise has been closely followed by Ghanaian football fans, with his performance highlighting the growing influence of Ghanaian players in Europe’s top leagues. His recognition as Player of the Week marks the third time a Manchester City player has won the accolade this season, following Erling Haaland and Jérémy Doku.
In the official fan vote, Semenyo secured 39 percent, narrowly edging out Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, who earned 32 percent. Other nominees included Lukas Nmecha of Leeds, José Sá of Wolverhampton, Malick Thiaw of Newcastle, and Jaidon Anthony of Burnley.
Football analysts say Semenyo’s breakthrough in the Premier League could inspire a new generation of Ghanaian attackers seeking to make their mark on Europe’s elite stages, reinforcing the nation’s growing reputation as a talent hub.
