Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed a viral notice circulating on social and traditional media platforms which falsely claimed that African nationals, including Ghanaians, had been ordered to leave Cambodia by 31 May 2026 or face arrest and penalties.
In a press release dated 29 May 2026, the ministry said the document was “fake” and did not originate from any official institution in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

It said diplomatic engagement with Cambodian authorities confirmed that the alleged directive was “completely untrue”, adding that the country’s immigration authorities had also issued a formal clarification rejecting the notice.
“The General Department of Immigration of the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia has stated categorically that the said notice is completely untrue,” the statement said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the public and media to disregard the discredited information and avoid sharing unverified content capable of causing panic among affected communities.
It also revealed that some Ghanaian nationals in Cambodia had previously expressed interest in voluntary return arrangements.
According to the ministry, the Government of Ghana, through its High Commission in Malaysia—accredited to Cambodia—has already facilitated the evacuation of 85 Ghanaian nationals between March and May 2026.
It added that arrangements are ongoing for the return of an additional 76 Ghanaians who have requested assistance to come back home.
The ministry said it continues to work with Cambodian authorities to ensure the safety and welfare of Ghanaian nationals abroad, reiterating its commitment to protecting citizens and urging reliance on official sources for information.
