The Ministry of Defence has inaugurated a committee to develop a policy framework for the establishment of a housing scheme for personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces, in fulfilment of a campaign promise by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The announcement was made in a Facebook post on Thursday (28 May) by Deputy Defence Minister Brogya Genfi, who said the initiative is aimed at producing a structured policy document to guide the proposed Ghana Armed Forces Home Ownership Scheme.
The committee is chaired by the Principal General Staff Officer (PGSO) at the Ministry of Defence, Brigadier General Ben Gah.
It brings together representatives from the Office of the President, the Ghana Home Ownership Fund, the Ministry of Works and Housing, the Ghana Armed Forces, the State Housing Corporation, the National Development Planning Commission, and the Veterans Administration, Ghana.
According to the Deputy Minister, the committee has been mandated to be “practical, consultative and work with a sense of urgency” in delivering its assignment.
The planned housing scheme forms part of the government’s broader pledge to improve the welfare and living conditions of security personnel.
No timeline has yet been announced for the completion of the policy document or implementation of the scheme.
