Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has opened up about the gradual breakdown of her once-close relationship with fellow screen icon Genevieve Nnaji, describing it as a natural drifting apart rather than the result of any major conflict.
Speaking on the Tea With Tay podcast, the 54-year-old said she remains uncertain about what caused the distance between them, despite their previously strong bond.
“We grew apart. We were close and we used to go to events together and then there was that gap…I don’t know what happened,” Henshaw said. “I don’t know what came over her but hey, I moved on.”
Henshaw reflected more broadly on the evolving nature of relationships, suggesting that such changes are a normal part of life.
“People are in your life for different reasons and seasons,” she said. “Some are roots, some are branches, some are leafs. That’s how it is through life.”
The actress indicated that while some relationships endure, others inevitably shift over time, a perspective she says comes with hindsight and personal growth.
Her latest comments echo earlier remarks made in 2023, when she acknowledged that the pair had experienced issues but downplayed them as not being serious disputes.
“Genevieve, we have had our issues but not big issues,” Henshaw said at the time, adding that Nnaji has a tendency to withdraw from people. “Sometimes she pulls away… and you’re like, ‘Am I smelling?’”
Both actresses are regarded as leading figures in Nigeria’s film industry, with decades-long careers that have helped shape Nollywood’s global profile. Their past friendship had been widely noted within the industry and among fans.
