Poor road network hinders healthcare in Kpandai constituency — Health Director says

The Kpandai District Director of the Ghana Health Service, Maria Ayichuru, has expressed concern over the poor road network in the constituency, describing it as a major challenge affecting healthcare delivery in many communities.

According to her, several roads linking rural communities to health facilities remain in bad condition, making it difficult for patients, especially pregnant women and emergency cases, to access timely medical care.

She made these remarks during the presentation of 60 hospital beds and 10 delivery beds donated to the Kpandai Hospital by the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Matthew Nyindam. The donation was aimed at improving conditions at the hospital and addressing the persistent shortage of beds that has affected patient care over the years.

Maria Ayichuru explained that transporting pregnant women and critically ill patients from remote communities to nearby health centres has become very tedious due to the unmotorable roads, particularly during the rainy season. She noted that health workers often face difficulties in reaching some communities to provide healthcare services, a situation she said continues to put lives at risk.

The District Director therefore appealed to government and other stakeholders to prioritise road infrastructure in the area to improve access to healthcare.

Presenting the items, the Member of Parliament, Mathew Nyindam assured residents of his commitment to supporting the health sector in the constituency.

He stated that healthcare workers at the hospital are often overwhelmed due to inadequate logistics and infrastructure, and pledged to continue addressing the pressing needs of the people.

He also urged the hospital management and residents to take proper care of the donated beds to ensure their long-term use.
