The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused authorities of using state institutions to intimidate political opponents, linking the claim to the ongoing prosecution of its Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe.
General Secretary Haruna Mohammed said recent legal actions against opposition figures point to a broader pattern aimed at silencing dissent.
“There is a clear attempt to frustrate opposition voices and limit their ability to speak freely,” he said on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (22 May).
He cited the handling of court proceedings in Baffoe’s case as an example, arguing that judicial conduct and law enforcement actions risk eroding confidence in democratic safeguards.
Mohammed said the party would pursue legal and institutional channels, including petitions and engagements with diplomatic stakeholders, to challenge what it described as unfair treatment.
He stressed that the NPP would remain within the confines of the law while defending its members and advocating for constitutional rights.
“We will not be gagged,” he said, warning that such developments could undermine public trust if left unaddressed.
