Ghana police declare Islamic teacher wanted over alleged defilement of minors

The Police in Western Region have declared a man wanted in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of two minors in Sekondi, authorities said in a statement.

The suspect, identified as Sule Anas, is accused of defilement and unnatural carnal knowledge involving two children in the Fijai Zongo Central area, near Sekondi.

According to the Western Regional Police Command, Anas worked as an Arabic teacher engaged by community leaders to provide weekend religious instruction to children.

Investigators allege that the suspect lured the victims into a storeroom within a mosque under the pretext of performing spiritual cleansing rituals, where the abuse is said to have taken place.

A warrant for his arrest was issued by the Sekondi Gender Court on May 20, 2026.

Police described the suspect as fair in complexion and approximately 5.7 feet tall. Intelligence gathered so far suggests he may have fled Ghana and could be hiding in neighbouring countries, including Ivory Coast or Togo.

Authorities have urged the public to provide information that could lead to his arrest, advising anyone with credible leads to contact the nearest police station or call emergency numbers 191 or 112.

The case adds to growing concerns over child protection and abuse within community and religious settings in parts of the country.
