The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association has criticised the public disclosure of names of health professionals implicated in a recent investigative report, describing the move as unfair and harmful.
Its president, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, said naming the individuals before the conclusion of disciplinary processes undermines professional dignity and exposes them to psychological distress.
“You put out names and all that you are communicating is that these are bad doctors and nurses,” she said on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (8 May).
She argued that Charles Amissah’s death investigation report should have focused on categories of staff involved rather than identifying individuals, especially given that investigations are still ongoing.
Ofori-Ampofo revealed that some affected professionals are experiencing significant mental stress and public backlash following the disclosure.
She further warned that such actions could demoralise already overstretched health workers and worsen migration trends within the sector.
The association also raised concerns about due process, noting that some workers were simultaneously subjected to multiple investigative committees.
Ofori-Ampofo called on authorities to prioritise systemic reforms rather than “name and shame” tactics, adding that Ghana’s healthcare challenges require institutional solutions.
