Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Slay has released a new single titled Wasteman, marking a shift from his signature street style to a more melodic and emotionally driven sound.
The song, which is available on major digital streaming platforms, blends themes of love, vulnerability and the fear of losing a partner, delivered over a light, mid-tempo production.
Wasteman was self-produced by the artiste and mixed and mastered by Sammy Qube.
The release follows a period of anticipation built through a series of cryptic social media posts by the rapper, signalling his return to the music scene.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the song, Kwesi Slay said it reflects a stage in life where emotional commitment becomes significant.
“There comes a time in a man’s life when he needs a real woman to hold him down. The fear of losing such a woman is what ‘Wasteman’ is trying to capture,” he said.
The track explores the tension in romantic relationships, with the artiste expressing the consequences of losing a partner, described in local parlance as becoming a “wasteman”.
The release forms part of a broader creative push by Kwesi Slay, who is expected to roll out more projects in the course of the year as he stages a return to the music industry.
