Apple has announced a new subscription option for App Store developers, allowing them to offer discounted pricing to users who commit to longer-term plans.
Under the new model, customers will be able to pay for auto-renewing subscriptions on a monthly basis while agreeing to a 12-month commitment. The structure is designed to give users lower overall costs while providing developers with more predictable revenue streams.
The company says the change reflects how many developers already present their pricing, often highlighting reduced monthly rates to encourage users to choose annual subscriptions over monthly payments.
Apple noted that the new system will standardise how these offers are displayed, with clearer rules aimed at preventing misleading pricing practices and improving transparency for users.
Before subscribing, customers will be shown details of payment structures and cancellation terms. Although users can cancel at any time, payments will continue until the end of the 12-month period.
Apple also said users will be able to track completed and remaining payments through their Apple account, while reminder emails and optional notifications will alert customers ahead of renewal dates.
However, the new subscription option will not be available at launch in the United States and Singapore. Apple did not provide reasons for the exclusion, but the decision comes as the company continues to face legal and regulatory scrutiny over App Store payment policies in the US.
Developers will be able to configure the new subscription format through App Store Connect and test it using Xcode. The feature will roll out with upcoming Apple software updates across supported devices.
