Three escapees re-arrested after Adabraka custody breach, police say

Police have re-arrested three of six suspects who escaped from custody at the Adabraka Police Station, with a manhunt underway for the remaining fugitives.

The Ghana Police Service said the escape triggered an immediate response, leading to the recapture of half of the suspects, while efforts have been intensified to locate the others.

“The Command has initiated a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape,” said Superintendent Juliana Obeng, head of public relations at the Greater Accra Regional Command.

Police also dismissed reports linking the escapees to a high-profile murder case in Kumasi involving Andrew Amankwa, father-in-law of Sammy Gyamfi.

According to authorities, the murder suspects were never held at the Adabraka station and remain in custody under the Western Central Police Command.

Those suspects—identified as Kojo Amponsah, Emmanuel Appiah and Tanko Bashiru—have been remanded and are expected to reappear in court on 7 May.

Police have urged the public to provide credible information on the whereabouts of the remaining escapees, assuring that all efforts are being made to bring them back into custody.

The incident has raised concerns about detention security, with authorities pledging a full probe into how the suspects managed to escape.
