An alleged assault at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency office in Tarkwa Nsuaem has triggered a police complaint and heightened tensions within the party, sources have said.
The incident is said to have occurred last Friday during the submission of polling station election nomination forms.
The victim, Francis Kwakye Amprofi, a party social media activist, was reportedly attacked while visiting the constituency office to file his documents.
Eyewitnesses alleged that tensions began when the Constituency Youth Organiser, Kwadu Sam, and individuals described as bodyguards linked to former Member of Parliament George Mireku Duker confronted the activist over alleged critical comments.
One of the bodyguards, identified as Sani, is said to have challenged Kwakye over the claims, prompting a demand for evidence from the activist. The exchange reportedly escalated after he stepped outside the office.
Witnesses further alleged that upon returning, the Youth Organiser verbally attacked the activist, describing him as politically irrelevant, before the situation turned physical.
Sani and another individual, identified as Adiaba, are accused of slapping and pushing Kwakye to the ground, with reports that attempts were made to strike him during the confrontation. The Youth Organiser is also alleged to have participated in the assault.
The activist was later rescued by bystanders and taken for medical attention.
The matter has since been reported to the Ghana Police Service. No arrests have been confirmed.
