Police in Ghana’s Ashanti Region have arrested one suspect in connection with the murder of an Indian national, Devendra Singh, whose body was discovered in a vehicle in Kumasi.
The suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations, according to a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has deployed a special team of intelligence officers and homicide investigators to support the probe and help track down other possible accomplices.
Police said the victim had earlier been reported missing, prompting a search operation.
At about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, officers received information that the victim’s vehicle had been found near the Royal Lemosey Hospital at Sabin Akrofuom.
A team dispatched to the scene discovered the vehicle parked by the roadside. Upon inspection, officers found the lifeless body of Singh in the boot, bearing multiple stab wounds.
The Regional Crime Scene Management Team processed the scene, after which the body was conveyed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police have since impounded the vehicle for further forensic examination.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing and have appealed to the public to provide any information that could assist in identifying and arresting other suspects.
