Otumfuo Osei Tutu II honoured current and former Ghanaian leaders with commemorative gold coins at a gala marking his 27th anniversary on the throne, in recognition of their roles in promoting peace and national stability.
The event, held at Jubilee Hall at the Manhyia Palace on 24 April, brought together political leaders, diplomats and business figures in what organisers described as a celebration of unity and leadership.
President John Dramani Mahama was the first recipient.
“His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, you are a leader who understands that governance is strengthened through a profound partnership between constitutional authority and traditional institutions.”
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor was also honoured for his leadership and peace initiatives, while former President Nana Akufo-Addo was recognised for his role in resolving long-standing chieftaincy and land disputes.
”A distinguished son of Ghana whose presidency will be remembered for healing one of Ghana’s oldest wounds,” his citation read.
Former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia also received a gold coin for his contribution to peace and national development.
Other honourees included Kwame Bediako, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Alex Apau Dadey, Alban Bagbin and Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
The gala was organised by the Diaspora Affairs Office in partnership with E ON 3 Group under the theme “Advancing Peace & Sustainable Economic Development Through Royal Vision.”
Organisers said the event highlighted the Asantehene’s role in fostering peace, conflict resolution and economic development within Ghana and beyond, describing his leadership as a bridge between traditional authority and modern governance.
The anniversary comes as the Manhyia Palace continues to play a key role in mediation and national cohesion, with speakers at the event emphasising the importance of traditional institutions in Ghana’s democratic and social framework.
