The military in Walewale has entered the West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly and removed the blockades from the Coordinating Director’s office.
The military cautioned protesters that if they return to lock the office again, security forces will carry out an exercise in town, and those involved will not like it.
The military said it is unlawful for citizens to lock any government office without cause.
Four fully armed military personnel carried out the operation to remove the blockades.
The protest took place on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
The youth, clad in red bands on their hands and heads, marched to the office, but the Municipal Coordinating Director was not present.
They then locked the office and warned the coordinating director not to set foot in the office again.
The youth said their action was prompted by the Coordinating Director’s alleged interference in party matters, habitual lateness, refusal to sign documents for some contractors, and poor working relationship with the MCE and other staff.
It is alleged that the Coordinating Director, Justice Bayom, who was transferred to the Municipal Assembly as Coordinating Director in September 2025, has a poor working relationship with most senior staff members at the assembly.
