A staff member of the General Studies Department at Koforidua Technical University, Clara Frimpong, has advised students in tertiary institutions to adequately prepare themselves to navigate challenges and apply the practical skills they acquire during their studies.
She particularly encouraged student teachers to stay updated with the knowledge gained in school, noting that it will play a crucial role in shaping their career paths.
Frimpong made these remarks at SDA College of Education during a program held to mark International Women’s Day and Heritage Month.
The event was organized by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation Ladies in collaboration with the Gender, Equity, and Social Inclusion Department of the college. speaking on the theme “Strategies for a Smooth Transition from Campus to Career and Mental Health,” Frimpong urged students to be intentional about planning their career paths to ensure a successful transition into the world of work.
“The need for focus, discipline, and the application of practical strategies that will help students move from campus to employment while building a strong foundation for long-term career growth.”she noted.
Frimpong further highlighted the importance of internships, mentorship, and continuous self-development, urging students to take advantage of opportunities that enhance their employability and professional confidence.
On her part, a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Koforidua, Sarfoa Adane, advised students to pay close attention to their mental health, describing rising psychological and behavioral challenges among young people as alarming.
She encouraged students to seek help from mental health professionals whenever they face difficulties.
She noted that while mental health conditions may not always have a definitive cure, they can be effectively managed with the right support and care.
She further urged students to prioritise self-care, maintain supportive relationships, and speak openly about their struggles, stressing that early intervention is key to managing mental health challenges effectively.
