The Minerals Commission has announced the suspension of all mineral rights applications via its online portal, effective 20 March 2026, as part of efforts to clean up its Mineral Cadastre Register.
In a public notice issued on March 18, the Commission said the directive will affect new applications across small-scale, industrial minerals, and large-scale mining categories.
The temporary suspension is expected to remain in force until 19 June 2026. During this period, no new applications will be accepted through the online system.
According to the Commission, the move is necessary to address a backlog of applications and allow for the processing of pending submissions already within the system.
The Commission explained that the exercise forms part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the management of mineral rights in Ghana.
“This exercise is part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to strengthen fairness, transparency, and accountability in the management and processing of mineral rights applications in Ghana,” the notice stated.
The Minerals Commission has urged prospective applicants, industry stakeholders, and the general public to take note of the directive and cooperate fully during the period of the suspension.
While acknowledging the inconvenience the move may cause, the Commission said the clean-up exercise is critical to enhancing the integrity of Ghana’s mineral licensing system.
The regulator also expressed appreciation for the public’s continued support as it works to streamline processes and improve governance within the mining sector.
