Review of public sector appointments upholds 1,201, revokes 541: Felix Kwakye Ofosu says review not politically motivated

A recent review of public sector recruitments following the7 December 2024, elections has upheld 1,201 appointments while revoking 541, according to findings from a Special Committee set up by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.

The panel was tasked with examining appointments made during the transition period after the 2024 general elections, following the revocation of 2,080 appointments amid concerns that the Akufo-Addo administration may have bypassed established civil service recruitment procedures.

Notably, 338 appointments involving persons with disabilities were maintained after being found to comply with due process, highlighting efforts to ensure inclusivity in public service recruitment.

Speaking on the review’s outcome, Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, emphasised that the exercise was not politically motivated. He said it was aimed at strengthening due process, promoting accountability, and ensuring good governance in Ghana’s public service.

“The review was undertaken to ensure that all appointments in the public sector are conducted transparently and in accordance with established procedures,” Kwakye Ofosu said.

The Special Committee’s findings are expected to inform ongoing efforts to improve recruitment practices across government agencies and reinforce merit-based appointments in the civil service.
