The government is set to re-enter the domestic bond market following the expiration of restrictions on new bond issuance, the Ministry of Finance has confirmed.
The three-year limitation, introduced in 2023 after the domestic debt restructuring exercise, has officially lapsed in line with improved macroeconomic conditions.
Authorities say the decision reflects stabilising economic indicators, including reduced inflation and stronger investor confidence supported by a medium-term debt management strategy.
Officials further noted that since 2025 the government has consistently honoured coupon payments and obligations under restructured bonds, describing this as evidence of fiscal discipline and renewed credibility in debt management.
With the restrictions lifted, the government intends to shift focus away from heavy reliance on Treasury bills and expand issuance of longer-dated domestic bonds to finance developmental priorities.
The administration of President John Dramani Mahama expressed gratitude to citizens for their cooperation during the debt restructuring period, which was undertaken to restore fiscal sustainability after economic pressures and debt challenges.
Authorities say the reopening of the bond market forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen financial stability and broaden funding options for government operations.
