Legal proceedings have commenced against eleven foreign nationals arrested in connection with an alleged counterfeit US dollar printing operation in Tuba, authorities have confirmed.
The suspects were detained in January 2026 during an intelligence-led operation targeting financial fraud activities. Security teams reportedly seized photocopiers, laptops, routers, and bundles of notes suspected to be counterfeit as part of the raid.
The operation was executed by the Anti-Human Trafficking and Cyber Fraud Taskforce Unit under the Weija Sector Command following investigations suggesting involvement in illegal financial activities.
Chief Superintendent Richard Coffie, Weija Sector Commander, disclosed that investigations have been finalised and the matter referred for prosecution.
He also revealed that between January and March 2026, the command rescued 42 additional foreign nationals allegedly trafficked into Ghana for cyber fraud activities. Officials attribute the successes to sustained intelligence-led enforcement.
Plans are underway to establish a specialised monitoring unit aimed at strengthening surveillance and disrupting human smuggling and trafficking networks.
Authorities confirmed that the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with Ghanaian and international legal frameworks.
