Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 45-year-old man accused of publishing false information online that allegedly implicated four officers in misconduct.
In a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the suspect, identified as Isaac Boafo, also known as “Duabo King,” was arrested for what police described as the publication of false news with intent to cause fear and panic.
According to the police, the arrest followed a viral video circulated on TikTok in which Boafo alleged that four officers stationed at the Central Police Station in Kumasi had engaged in inappropriate conduct with commercial sex workers during night patrol duties at Asafo, a suburb of Kumasi.
Officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate in the Ashanti Region apprehended the suspect after what the statement described as intelligence-led operations.
During interrogation, Boafo admitted to publishing the video and told investigators he is a social media content creator who made the allegations to attract views and online engagement, the police said.
He also acknowledged that he could not substantiate the claims made against the officers.
The statement further said the suspect admitted to making comments about the President of the Republic for content creation purposes and conceded he could not defend those statements.
He has since been formally charged and is being held to assist with further investigations.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command cautioned the public against publishing or circulating false information, particularly on social media, warning that such actions could cause unnecessary fear, panic and reputational damage.
It said individuals found engaging in such conduct would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The police did not immediately indicate when the suspect would appear in court.
