Sports Minister pledges two months’ salary to Ghana Sports Fund

In a move aimed at showcasing leadership commitment to Ghana’s sporting development, Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has pledged to donate two months of his salary to the newly established Ghana Sports Fund.

The announcement came during a parliamentary session last Thursday, where Hon Adams highlighted the potential of the Sports Funds Bill to transform Ghana’s sports sector and contribute significantly to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“If we expect the private sector to invest, if we expect federations to reform, and if we expect our young athletes to commit, then leadership must also demonstrate commitment,” he said. “I will donate two months of my salary to the Ghana Sports Fund.”

Adams, who also represents the Buem Constituency in Parliament, said the salary deductions will begin in February 2026. He also called on fellow parliamentarians, ministers of state, and members of the executive to support the fund through tangible contributions.

“The government has provided the legislative framework; now we must all help build its foundation,” he added.

The Ghana Sports Fund is designed to mobilise and manage financial resources transparently, targeting areas such as athlete welfare, grassroots development, infrastructure upgrades, and elite performance preparation.

The Minister’s pledge follows the first institutional contribution from the National Investment Bank (NIB), which donated GHC100,000, marking it as the inaugural corporate supporter of the initiative.
