Alexander Afenyo-Markin lauded the policies of the John Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo governments as practical applications of Ghana’s center-right political philosophy.
Addressing the Young Commons Forum at the University of Cape Coast, he cited key interventions such as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Capitation Grant, school feeding programmes, free Senior High School (SHS), and Free Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as efforts to empower citizens.
He also highlighted initiatives like the 1 District 1 Factory (1D1F) program and Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) for promoting industrialisation, agricultural productivity, and job creation.
Afenyo-Markin said these interventions were not welfare populism but strategic investments in human capital and property-owning democracy, enabling individuals to participate fully in Ghana’s economic life.
