Ghana Football Association president reflects on progress since 2019

Kurt Okraku, president of the Ghana Football Association, has highlighted the progress made in Ghanaian football since his administration began in October 2019.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (17 February), Okraku said he inherited a “completely broken” football ecosystem, with domestic competitions halted and public confidence at its lowest.

He noted that his team has rebuilt the foundations of the sport, revived youth football through the National Juvenile Committee, and given attention to women’s football, which previously received minimal support.

“The enormity of the task hit me on my first day,” Okraku said. “We had to find the right people with passion and skill to execute our vision. COVID delayed some plans, but we persevered.”

Okraku stressed that governance reforms, structural realignments, and strategic investments have been central to regaining credibility, adding that domestic football competitions are now being televised and supported more than ever before.
