A student of Koforidua Secondary Technical Senior High School (SECTECH) has sustained serious injuries after he was allegedly attacked with a machete during the ongoing Eastern Regional inter-schools competition in Koforidua.
The victim, identified as Jerome Appiah, is said to have been assaulted while eating near the competition grounds on Friday.
Eyewitnesses told Asaase News that the suspect, believed to be a Form Two student of New Juaben Senior High School, approached Appiah with an accomplice before launching the attack. The two reportedly fled the scene immediately after inflicting the injury.
Appiah suffered a deep cut to his shoulder and bled heavily, prompting bystanders to call for urgent help.
Police officers at the event quickly intervened and transported him to the Eastern Regional Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Hospital sources say he is in stable condition after receiving emergency care.
The incident has heightened safety concerns around the inter-schools competition, which has already recorded pockets of unrest and student clashes at some venues.
Police have since launched investigations and are working to identify and apprehend the suspects.
Authorities say additional security measures may be deployed to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of students participating in the regional games.
