The General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana and a senior clergyman of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Reverend Cyril Fayose, has said that repeated inaccurate prophecies amount to a mockery of the Christian faith.
His comments, on 2 February 2026, follow the decision by the Founder and Leader of Spiritlife Revival Ministries, Prophet Bernard Nelson-Eshun, to temporarily withdraw from public teaching and preaching after apologising for an inaccurate prophecy linked to the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries, saying Kennedy Agyapong would emerge victor.
Rev Dr Cyril Fayose also said that some churches in Ghana, chiefly Charismatic churches are not under any Christian Council.
“The Christian Council is made up of historic churches like the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Methodist and Anglican churches. Some of them may fall under the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, but I can assure you that many of them do not fall under any Council”, the Reverend said.
The General Secretary of the Christian Council also expressed concern that some Charismatic pastors make such prophesies only for attention.
“These days, all kinds of things are happening, some people even do these things, just to bring attention to themselves, and make themselves popular. Overnight they become household names, the prophesy did not come to pass, but the whole world knows him”
He also said, it is challenging to reach out to these Charismatic pastors, since they are not under any organisation.
“This is one of the difficulties that we have in trying to reach out to them, but we are still trying to find ways to reach out to them. One way is inviting them to our offices, and the other way is to talk to them directly, even if they are not part of us”, he added.
