Ghanaian rapper and producer Elom Adablah, popularly known as E.L, has unveiled a brand new single titled “Noko Fio”, describing it as a deeply personal and inspirational record dedicated to everyday people hustling to make ends meet.
Speaking during an appearance on Asaase Café on Monday (2 February), the versatile artist performed the track live and shared insight into his creative process, philosophy, and why he is stepping back into the spotlight after years of keeping a relatively low profile.
“I’m here to play you guys my brand new track. Hopefully you guys like it,” he said cheerfully before the premiere.
“I just do what I do”
Known for carving his own sonic lane within Ghana’s hip-hop and Afrobeats space, E.L said “Noko Fio” reflects his signature style rather than chasing trends.
“I don’t follow too much,” he explained. “Everything that’s going on is cool, but I like to have my own sound and my own thing going on.”
The rapper, who also produced the song, revealed that inspiration often comes naturally rather than through deliberate effort.
“I’ve been doing this for so long. Sometimes I don’t tap into the inspiration — I just do what I do,” he said. “I started with the beat, produced it, and when I got to about 90 per cent, I already knew what the song was going to be about.”
A song for the ‘regular man’
According to E.L, “Noko Fio” is meant to resonate with ordinary Ghanaians — workers, traders, and young people grinding daily for survival.
“This is a song for the regular man,” he noted. “If you wake up every morning — 4am, 5am, 6am — go to your office, the market, the streets, whatever you do… this song is dedicated to you.”
He added that the record is designed to grow on listeners over time, rather than make an instant impact.
“What makes a great song is when it grows on you,” he said. “It’s not always about first sight.”
How to listen
The award-winning artist also stressed the importance of properly experiencing music, cautioning fans against judging songs through phone speakers.
“Never listen to my music on your phone,” he said with a laugh. “That’s not how it’s supposed to be consumed. Set it up properly.”
Back in the spotlight
While some fans have suggested that E.L stepped back from mainstream visibility after 2018, the rapper maintained he has remained consistent, choosing a quieter, concept-driven approach over aggressive promotion.
“I’ve steadily been doing me,” he said. “I don’t play by anybody’s rules. I’m a rebel like that.”
However, he admitted that “Noko Fio” has pushed him to re-engage audiences more actively.
“I love the song so much that I feel like I have to come out here and let as many people as possible hear it,” he said. “So yeah — I’m getting back in your faces for a while.”
Collaborations and future plans
On potential collaborations with artists like Sarkodie or Joey B, E.L said timing would determine any new releases.
“We have a couple of songs together. Anytime the time is right, we’ll put something out,” he said.
He also hinted at possible activity with his former collective, confirming members are in discussions about future projects.
“Noko Fio,” released just last week, is already gaining traction, with E.L expressing confidence in its reception.
“I think it’s doing great,” he said. “I just want people to hear it, share it, and enjoy.”
