The Dombo family has congratulated the former vice-president Mahamudu Bawumia on his election as the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing the development as a historic milestone and a clear endorsement of his leadership and vision.
In a press statement, dated 2 February 2026 and signed by Tracy Rabiatu Dombo and Alexandra Dombo Tenadu, the family said Bawumia’s victory reflects “the strong confidence reposed in him by party delegates and members across the country”, while also recognising his “vision, dedication and steadfast commitment to the ideals and principles of the New Patriotic Party”.
According to the statement, the Dombo family views Bawumia’s emergence as flagbearer as proof of his leadership credentials and long-standing service to the nation.
“Bawumia’s selection as flagbearer is a clear testament to his proven leadership, intellectual depth, and unwavering service to the nation,” the statement said.
The family further highlighted Bawumia’s record in public service, pointing to his contributions to national discourse, economic management and Ghana’s digital transformation agenda, which it said demonstrate “a forward-looking approach to governance and a deep understanding of the aspirations of the Ghanaian people”.
Rooted in the traditions and progressive values of the NPP, the Dombo family said it is inspired by Dr Bawumia’s consistent call for unity and inclusive growth, expressing confidence that his leadership would strengthen party cohesion and broaden the party’s national appeal.
“The family firmly believes that his leadership will strengthen internal party cohesion, energise the grass roots, and present a compelling national vision that resonates with Ghanaians across all regions and backgrounds,” the statement said.
The statement also pledged the family’s full support for Bawumia in the run-up to the 2028 general election noting that this moment requires discipline, unity and collective effort.
“The family pledges its unwavering support and readiness to rally behind Dr Bawumia to ensure a decisive victory for the New Patriotic Party in the 2028 general elections,” it added.
Beyond the party, the Dombo family expressed confidence in Bawumia’s ability to lead Ghana toward sustained development and democratic consolidation.
“Under Dr Bawumia’s leadership, the NPP is well positioned to restore hope, strengthen democratic governance, and lead Ghana towards sustained economic growth and national renewal beyond 2028,” the statement said.
The Dombo family further congratulated Bawumia on his “well-deserved achievement” and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting his presidential campaign.
