The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Effutu Constituency has denied allegations that delegates were intimidated before, during, or after the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday.
In a statement, the constituency leadership described the claims as “untrue, unfounded, unfair, unfortunate, and unnecessary.” The statement singled out Theophilus Kojo Halm, a former constituency chairman, as the source of the allegations.
“The claims of voter intimidation are being spread mainly by Theophilus Kojo Halm,” the statement read. “For the records, the allegations are untrue.”
The statement also referenced similar allegations during the 2023 NPP presidential primary. At that time, Halm campaigned for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and raised concerns about voter intimidation that were later proven to be unfounded. Ahead of the 2026 primary, Halm openly supported Mahamudu Bawumia, yet, according to the constituency leadership, has again raised alarmist claims that do not reflect reality.
Joseph Nicholas Bondzie, Chairman of the Effutu Constituency, urged party supporters and the public to disregard the allegations, stating they unfairly cast the constituency and the party in a negative light.
“The Effutu Constituency and the NPP remain committed to upholding democratic values and ensuring a free and fair primary process,” Bondzie added.
The statement comes as the NPP prepares to consolidate support behind its presidential aspirants in the lead-up to the general elections later this year.
