The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has provided US$719,733 in humanitarian assistance to support refugees, internally displaced persons, asylum seekers, returnees, and vulnerable host communities in Togo.
The support, allocated under ECOWAS’ Vision 2050 through its Directorate of Humanitarian and Social Affairs, is aimed at strengthening protection and relief efforts for populations affected by growing humanitarian pressures, particularly in the northern parts of the country.
The official presentation of the funds took place on Monday, 26 January 2026, in Lomé. The cheque was presented by ECOWAS Resident Representative in Togo, H.E. Deweh Emily, together with the Director of Humanitarian and Social Affairs at ECOWAS, Dr Sintiki Tarfa-Ugbe.
The donation was received on behalf of the Togolese government by the Minister in charge of Security and Civil Protection, represented by Commissioner Hodabalo-Pitemnèwèa Kadja, and the Director General of the National Civil Protection Agency (ANPC), Lieutenant Colonel Yoma Baka.
The intervention comes at a time when Togo is facing increasing humanitarian needs linked to insecurity and displacement in its northern regions, where communities continue to experience the spillover effects of instability from the wider Sahel.
ECOWAS said the support reflects its commitment to regional solidarity, cooperation, and humanitarian action, in line with its long-term development vision.
Implementation of the programme is being carried out with the support of the World Food Programme (WFP) and coordinated nationally by the ANPC under the supervision of the Ministry of Security to ensure the assistance reaches targeted beneficiaries.
